Broward Partners for Racial Equity and the Broward Non-Profit Executive Alliance Racial Equity Task Force
The Children's Services Council of Broward County (CSC) co-created the Broward Partners for Racial Equity and the Broward Non-Profit Executive Alliance Racial Equity Task Force to implement strategies to decrease racism and increase racial equity in our organizations, non-profits and child serving systems. Additionally, CSC is an active partner in the Urban League of Broward County’s Racial Equity Workgroup to reduce racial disproportionality in the Broward child welfare system, Florida’s Office of Early Learning Racial Equity Task Force and the Southern Education Foundation Southern Policy and Practice Network.
South Florida Anchor Alliance is a collaborative of regional institutions—hospitals and healthcare systems, education enterprises and municipalities-coming together to harness their collective multi-billion-dollar spending power and vast human and intellectual capital in order to create a more just and inclusive local economy. It is founded by Health Foundation of South Florida, with support from Citi Community Development. An anchor institution is an organization, deeply rooted in the local community by virtue of its invested capital and/or relationship to its constituents.
In South Florida, anchors have the power to provide tremendous opportunity for economic growth for local residents and small business owners. In South Florida, across Miami-Dade and Broward counties alone, public and non-profit educating and health institutions spend $3.7 billion a year in procuring goods and services. Currently, only a small percentage of that goes to small, locally and minority-owned businesses. By shifting procurement, hiring and investment practices in ways that benefit the local economy, anchor institutions can improve the economic well-being and security of the communities they serve.
